-
Yes, they certainly help distract my little one’s wondering hands! And many of my customers have reported the same!
-
All the wraps scraps I use are made by reputable companies that only use safe dyes that should not harm the baby if sucked! Infact many of my babywearing parents say it helps to stop them from sucking and damaging their wraps and carriers!
-
It is always best to handwash them, and preferably just use warm soapy water, you can also use detergents such as ecover but please ensure that the detergent is fully rinsed from the necklace before wearing again. The teethers are naturally antibacterial but should they need washing just use warm (not boiling) water.
You can also use any mineral based edible oils such as flaxseed, olive, coconut and grapeseed oils for example to help preserve the life of the teether and to renew the natural colours of the woods.
Teethers
-
Yes, we now make the teethers/pendants. They are safety tested in an independant laboratory to safety standard EN71 – 3.
-
We use 2 different woods. Birch wood which is sourced local to me in Mid-Wales and also American Black Walnut wood sourced through a local company.
-
Yes, if untreated or finished with a natural oil they are much safer and have many more benefits than plastic teethers. Please do be aware of some wooden teethers on the market that are painted! Some of these can be unsafe. I only use hardwoods that will be treated with organic flax oil, which can just help prolong the life of the wood.

Wooden Teether Information and Care Instructions:
Wood is naturally anti-bacterial. Bacteria generally does not sustain life for long and does not duplicate on wood like it can on plastic. However should you want to clean the teether just use a slightly damp cloth to wipe over. Never submerge your wooden teethers in water or allow them to be wet for a long time, wood can absorb the water thus making the grain slightly rough. Should this happen you can simply use an extra fine sandpaper approx 220-400 grit and then apply a thin layer of food safe oil such as flaxseed oil, you can just use your clean hands to rub it in.
My teethers have all been hand crafted and sanded to a smooth finish and an organic flaxseed oil applied to help prolong the life of the wood. There may be a few natural rough spots which is nothing to worry about but there should be no raised grain. Wood adapts to its surroundings so will lose and collect moisture easily, so please bare this in mind when deciding where to store your teethers. Due to the nature of wood each piece will be completely unique in appearance and may contain knots and flecks in the grain, which gives them wonderful character.
