My name is Claire, I am wife to Phil and mum to 2 beautiful girls Lucy and Seren who are my inspiration!

My journey into founding Slingamebobs started with the birth of Lucy. We had bought a high street branded baby carrier which we found very uncomfortable for both us and Lucy. This led me to researching different types of slings which was like opening the gateway to whole new amazing world of babywearing! ☺ I started with a Moby wrap which was a life saver. After trying many other baby carriers I came into contact with an amazing company called Pouchlings to make us a custom made wrap conversion baby carrier.

I had some woven wrap scraps returned with my fabulous new carrier to which I thought. “What can I make with these!” I used to do my hair in a twisted style so I experimented and made my 1st ever necklace. I had bought a wooden teether for my daughter, a fish, which I thought would be perfect to add to my necklace and hence my twisted wrap scrap teething necklace idea was born.

In 2013 I attended the School of Babywearing Consultancy training course where I met a wonderful group of mama’s. Many of which were interested in my necklace and requested me to make them one.
I then attended the European Babywearing Conference 2013 in Bristol which also happened to be on Serens 1st birthday ☺ there were a lot of wonderful comments and interest in my necklace as well as the ones made for friends. After the conference a lovely mama had posted on a forum that she had seen one of my friends wearing a necklace and desperately wanted to find me to also have a twisted wrap scrap teething necklace made, and from that 1 comment I was flooded with orders.

I have now just given up a 12 year career with the R.S.P.C.A to become a full time work at home mum (WAHM) and really enjoy being able to work around my family, being creative, working from home in the beautiful countryside of Wales and most of all making lots of beautiful accessories which parents and babies can really enjoy!

As well as a beautiful accessory to match your baby carriers, clothes or other items there are also many other benefits.

Babies like the grab and shake things and continually put things in their mouths! With these safe Slingamebobs necklaces and natural wooden teethers they get to see the many colours of the necklaces and Slingamejigs, to explore the textures of the twisted fabric, the smoothness, warmness and taste of the wooden teethers. The teethers can be interchanged so you can always swap for different shaped teethers, or even wear without a teether!

Relief for teething babies
As well as wood having natural antibacterial properties, so no need for sterilizing! There has been research to say there are also medicinal benefits. Many of my teethers, such as the fish are made from Alder wood which is extensively used for gum, throat and tooth problems and also to cure injuries!

Unlike plastic teethers that can contain liquids or other harsh chemicals, untreated wood or water based, oil based or beeswax finished woods are so much safer and completely natural. Which is also why wood is commonly used for cooking, i.e chopping boards, spoons etc….. It is also far more durable than plastics.
There are certain woods that are used for teethers, all of which are hard woods that do not splinter such as Maple, cherry, walnut and Oak. The popper fastening also acts as a safety feature, even though very strong and takes a lot for it to un-popper, if it is pulled really hard it will just un-popper rather than break and also prevent risk of strangulation!

Unlike many other breastfeeding and babywearing fiddle necklaces Slingambobs necklaces are pretty much unbreakable which is 1 benefit alot of my customers have said they like aswell as being comfy to wear.

My main aim is to help aid teething babies, and to make beautiful but practical babywearing and breastfeeding accessories.
